Decrease in Russian Military Activity in Sumy Region, Says Ukrainian Border Guard
Ukrainian Border Guard spokesperson Andriy Demchenko reported on July 3, 2025, that Russian troops have significantly reduced their activity in the Sumy region and have minimized the use of motorized equipment, reports 24brussels.
Demchenko emphasized that Ukrainian forces are effectively countering the advances of small Russian assault infantry groups along the borders of the Khotyn and Yunakiv communities.
Despite this reduction in activity, the occupying forces continue to actively shell Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, frequently using aviation to strike Sumy with unguided rockets and guided bombs.
Recently, Ukrainian defenders have made progress in the vicinity of the border village of Oleksiyivka and have liberated Andriivka from occupation.
Russia has concentrated over 50,000 troops in the Sumy direction. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskiy claims that their advance has been halted, and Ukrainian forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught. However, media reports suggest that the number of Ukrainian defenders in this sector is nearly three times less than that of the invaders.
