Disinformation Campaign Targets Ukrainian Military Families
On August 12, 2025, hostile Telegram channels disseminated fake “guides for the wives of service members,” advising them to “endure violence,” hide signs of abuse, keep conflicts private, and even apologize to their husbands, reports 24brussels.
These guides do not exist in reality. No state or military body in Ukraine condones domestic violence, and the content of these fraudulent leaflets contradicts Ukrainian legislation, which imposes criminal penalties for domestic abuse.
To increase credibility, propagandists incorporated a QR code leading to a legitimate public organization that offers psychological support to military personnel and their families.
The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) emphasizes that these fakes serve Russia’s agenda to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine, distort perceptions of military personnel’s values regarding family, and undermine trust in the army.
Earlier, the CCD reported that Russia circulated false claims regarding the murder of a resident of Vinnytsia by military enlistment office employees. CCD experts assert that the enemy is conducting a multi-level information campaign aimed at disrupting mobilization efforts in Ukraine. The propagandists are not only spreading falsehoods about enlistment office staff but also inciting violence against them.
