Drone Strike Claims Lives of Elderly Couple in Eastern Ukraine
A drone strike by Russian forces has killed an elderly couple in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. The incident occurred on the highway near the village of Petrivka in the Zolochiv community, where a combat drone targeted a civilian ZAZ-1103 “Slavuta” vehicle carrying a 70-year-old driver and his 71-year-old partner, reports 24brussels.
Authorities from the Kharkiv region have confirmed the tragedy and stated that a criminal investigation has been initiated under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses war crimes.
Russia’s use of strike drones to target civilians continues to escalate. On the night of August 20, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on the city of Okhtyrka in the Sumy region, injuring 12 individuals, including two children.
This attack reflects the ongoing conflict’s brutal nature, marked by systematic assaults against civilian populations in Ukraine. The international community is being urged to take action against such violations of human rights and humanitarian law.
