Drone Attack on Defense Plant in Izhevsk, Russia

On July 1, 2025, a drone strike targeted a defense manufacturing facility in Izhevsk, Russia, approximately 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, reports 24brussels.

The Governor of Udmurt Republic, Alexander Brechalov, reported in the morning that the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant “Kupol” was attacked by drones allegedly deployed by the Kyiv regime. He confirmed that emergency services had arrived on the scene and mentioned the evacuation of workers. Brechalov also indicated that there were casualties and a fire erupted at the facility.

Witnesses reported hearing at least two explosions near the “Kupol” plant.

According to the Russian outlet SHOT, the drones used in the attack were of the “Lyuty” type.

The Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant “Kupol” is one of the largest enterprises in Russia’s defense industry, operating under the Almaz-Antey Group as a primary manufacturer of production systems. It produces the Tor-M2E air defense system and Harpy-A1 strike drones, including maintenance services.

Since December 2022, the plant has been included in sanction lists imposed by the European Union and the United States.
