Explosion in Occupied Kalynove Claims Russian Soldiers’ Lives
On August 23, 2025, an explosion rocked the temporary occupation of Kalynove in the Alchevsk district of Luhansk region, claiming the lives of three Russian soldiers and injuring two more, reports 24brussels.
The blast, which occurred in the courtyard of a house housing six Russian servicemen, resulted from the detonation of munitions, according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. These troops had previously been implicated in war crimes in Bucha, Kyiv region, in 2022. Their role in Luhansk involved serving as a mobile anti-air defense unit, tasked with protecting a nearby Russian military repair base.
The explosion not only resulted in casualties but also destroyed a UAZ vehicle carrying ammunition, along with two pickup trucks mounted with machine guns. The attack underscores the ongoing vulnerability of Russian forces in the region amid hostilities.
Earlier this year, law enforcement officials successfully identified twelve members of the Russian army who, from March 5 to 9, 2022, executed sixteen civilians at the intersection of Vokzalna and Yablunska streets in Bucha. Among those identified was a commander responsible for issuing orders during the assault.
The chaotic conditions of warfare often hinder law enforcement from promptly documenting evidence, risking the loss of valuable proof. In such cases, representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including Territorial Defense Forces, have unique access to sites of incidents, allowing them to document violations of human rights and international humanitarian law to promote justice.
