Ukrainian Defender Reports On Increased Use of FPV Drones By Russian Forces

On July 2, 2025, a commander of the NGU “Typhoon” reconnaissance drone unit, identified by the call sign “Branch,” reported that the frontline situation near Zaporizhzhia remains largely unchanged. Russian forces are attempting to test defensive lines and launch assaults against Ukrainian positions with mixed success, reports 24brussels.

During a broadcast on Army TV, she warned that the occupiers are deploying a high number of reconnaissance and strike drones, continuously developing new tactics for their use.

Recently, the enemy has engaged FPV drones for air defense purposes, creating new challenges for Ukrainian forces. “They are currently making it difficult for us and destroying our reconnaissance drones. There are frequent strikes by ‘Lightning’ drones, often accompanied by ‘Superkams’ and ‘Orlans,’ with fewer instances of ZALA,” the defender explained. “We strive to minimize this nuisance.”

The primary targets for the “Branch” crew are the enemy’s FPV drone operators. However, they are also addressing the Russian military hardware; at the end of June, they successfully halted a train carrying occupying forces.

According to DeepState, over the past day, the occupiers have advanced into the village of Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
