Ukraine Strikes Oil Pipeline, Igniting Tensions with Hungary
On August 18, 2025, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused Ukraine of attacking an oil pipeline, halting supplies to Hungary. He characterized the incident as a “blow to energy security” and claimed that “Brussels and Kyiv have been attempting to drag Hungary into the conflict for over three years,” reports 24brussels.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha swiftly responded, emphasizing that Russia bears full responsibility for the situation. “Hungary has long claimed that Moscow is an unreliable partner. However, it has simultaneously taken steps to maintain its dependency on Russia, even after the onset of the full-scale war. Now, you may address your grievances and threats to your friends in Moscow,” Sybiha stated.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian drones targeted the “Nikolskoe” oil pumping station in the Tambov region, igniting a fire and entirely halting operations along the Druzhba pipeline. This station is reportedly integral to the economic infrastructure of the aggressor and is utilized to support occupying forces.
