Russian Forces Launch Massive Drone and Missile Attack on Ukraine
On July 9, 2025, Ukrainian air defenses faced a significant assault with over 300 drones launched from Russia, according to Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, head of the Air Force’s communications department. He reported that while the attack involved a record number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a substantial portion were decoy drones. The information was disclosed during a telethon broadcast, reports 24brussels.
Ihnat confirmed that Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted many of the drones, with drones designed for interception accounting for the destruction of numerous hostile UAVs. Specific details regarding impacts from air-launched Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ballistic missiles were also noted, indicating that not all missiles reached their intended targets.
The primary focus of the Russian attack was the Volyn region, which saw strikes against airfields and specific industrial targets. “These include airfields and individual enterprises in this area that the enemy targeted. Recently, the occupiers have adopted a more focused approach to their airstrikes,” Ihnat explained.
The attacks extended to the Zhytomyr region, resulting in fires and destruction. Additionally, a drone assault in the Brovary district of Kyiv Oblast ignited a fire at a local enterprise, with reports of at least one woman sustaining injuries as a result of the drone attack.
