Kyiv to Launch Comprehensive Drone Interception System Amid Ongoing Threats
On the directive of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Kyiv City Military Administration (KVMU) is set to initiate a full-scale drone interception system to counter hostile drones targeting the capital. This announcement was made by Timur Tkachенко, the head of the KVMU, via Telegram, reports 24brussels.
The capital is allocating additional funds for the large-scale project titled “Clear Sky,” which aims to safeguard the airspace using domestically developed interception drones.
A total of 260 million hryvnias will be allocated for this initiative. The funds will be utilized not only for the acquisition of equipment but also for establishing an effective response system, which includes:
- The establishment of a training center for operators, a specialized institution where professionals will receive training in managing interception drones;
- The creation of additional mobile units that will be on duty in Kyiv and the surrounding areas.
Tkachенко stated that the KVMU is working closely with the General Staff, Air Forces, and Defense Forces to achieve optimal synergy with the air defense system.
The head of the KVMU assured that during the pilot phase of the “Clear Sky” project in Kyiv Oblast, nearly 550 enemy UAVs have been intercepted, demonstrating its effectiveness.
“The 550 intercepted Shahed drones are not just statistics. They represent saved lives, infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and energy,” Tkachенко emphasized.
Previously, it was reported that Kyiv was subjected to a massive strike by Russian drones and ballistic missiles on the night of July 10, resulting in at least 16 injuries and two fatalities.
