Macron Warns of Russia’s Predatory Nature Amidst Ongoing Conflict

On August 19, 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron declared that Russia represents a predatory force, stating it is a “cannibal at our gates” that must “continue to eat to survive.” In an interview with LCI, he urged Europeans to refrain from naivety, labeling Russia as a “prolonged destabilizing force” and a persistent threat, reports 24brussels.

Macron emphasized that since 2007-2008, President Vladimir Putin has rarely fulfilled his commitments, instead acting as a “destabilizing force.” He described Russia’s aspirations to revise borders for the sake of extending its power, noting that a country investing 40% of its budget in military efforts, with a mobilized military exceeding 1.3 million personnel, will not revert to a state of peace and an open democratic system overnight.

While he clarified that it would be incorrect to claim that “France will be attacked tomorrow,” the existing threats to Europeans remain undeniable. “We must not be naive,” insisted the French leader.

During a multilateral meeting at the White House, Macron proposed the establishment of a four-way summit that would bring together the Presidents of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, along with an additional European leader. He also stressed that if negotiations between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin fail, anti-Russian sanctions should be strengthened.
