Massive Airstrike Hits Luhansk in Latest Assault
On July 9, 2025, Luhansk experienced its largest airstrike since the onset of the full-scale war, with Russian forces launching aeroballistic “Kinzhal” missiles, cruise missiles, and drones at the city. Fires broke out and damage occurred throughout Luhansk; however, initial reports indicate no casualties, reports 24brussels.
City Mayor Ihor Polishchuk announced the attack on his Telegram channel, stating that fires were recorded at one of the local enterprises and in a garage cooperative. The extent of further damages is still being assessed.
“Currently, there is no information regarding casualties as a result of the enemy attack,” Polishchuk noted.
Monitoring accounts reported that Russian troops struck Luhansk with at least five “Kinzhal” missiles, along with an undetermined number of cruise missiles and drones.
The previous large-scale bombardment occurred on June 6, when Russia used 15 Shahed kamikaze drones and six missiles. Following that attack, a man’s body was recovered from the rubble of a collapsed nine-story building, while around 30 people sustained injuries.
