Ukrainian Military Deploys Interceptor Drones Amid Ongoing Attacks
Ukrainian military officials have begun utilizing interceptor drones to counter enemy UAVs, as announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky following a significant nighttime assault on Kyiv. The president stated, “The interceptor drones have started operating — dozens of enemy drones have been downed. We are doing everything to develop this direction of protecting our cities. It is crucial to maintain partner support to defend against ballistic threats. The ‘Patriots’ and missiles for them are real lifesavers,” reports 24brussels.
In addition to the capital, the massive airstrike impacted Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions. So far, 23 injuries have been reported.
“Everyone is receiving assistance. Many areas experienced debris falls from drones and missiles. Unfortunately, there have also been direct hits,” the president added.
On July 4, Russian forces launched over 550 drones and missiles at Ukraine, primarily targeting Kyiv. Ukrainian air defenses were able to down 268 drones, while an additional 208 were either lost or suppressed by electronic warfare.
Additionally, at the end of June, it was revealed that in response to the increasing number of Russian drone attacks, Ukraine is forming new mobile air defense units equipped with interceptor drones. Yuri Ignat, Chief of Communications for the Air Force of Ukraine, emphasized that the new units aim to protect vulnerable cities and towns from massive assaults. Furthermore, training is ongoing for drone operators who will manage the interceptor UAVs.
