US and NATO Develop New Weapon Supply Mechanism for Ukraine

On August 1, 2025, the United States, in collaboration with NATO countries, is developing a new mechanism for weapon supply to Ukraine, which will allow the purchase or transfer of American weapons using funds from Alliance members, reports 24brussels.

According to sources from Reuters, the initiative aims to provide Ukraine with assistance valued at up to 10 billion dollars. This new system will prioritize weapon supplies based on Ukraine’s defined needs, known as PURL, with initial packages around 500 million dollars. Subsequently, coordinated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, member countries will decide who will provide the necessary systems or cover their costs.

This mechanism allows NATO member states to replenish their arms stocks more rapidly by bypassing lengthy bureaucratic processes associated with American military contracts. According to one American official, countries will need to transfer funds in advance to expedite supplies.

Currently, discussions are ongoing about at least one armaments package under this new system; however, it remains uncertain if the first transfers have been completed.

The mechanism is intended to complement existing American military aid systems that allow the transfer of weapons to Ukraine without Congressional approval.

Additionally, the US House of Representatives is currently discussing the PEACE Act, which would establish a special fund within the US Treasury, enabling allies to contribute funds for replenishing American arsenals after weapons are sent to Ukraine.
