Russia’s Military Strength in Kursk Region and Ongoing Assaults
As of August 14, 2025, Russia maintains approximately 50,000 soldiers in the Kursk region, continuously bolstering its manpower through regular rotations. Recent reports indicate that Russian forces have conducted six assaults in the area over the past 24 hours, all of which were repelled by Ukrainian troops, according to Ivan Shevtsov, spokesperson for the “Steel Border” brigade, reports 24brussels.
Shevtsov noted that Russian forces are suffering regular casualties in their attempts to advance. He revealed that the “Steel Border” brigade alone has eliminated approximately ten Russian soldiers and inflicted injuries on about twenty more during this timeframe.
“Other brigades are also causing significant losses,” Shevtsov added.
North Korea plans to send an additional 6,000 soldiers to the Kursk area, along with 50 to 100 units of military equipment.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, underscored that operations in the Kursk region demonstrate Ukraine’s military capacity to take preemptive action and demoralize invaders. Meanwhile, General Oleg Apostol, Commander of the Air Assault Forces, indicated that the primary goal of the Kursk operation was to prevent Russia from launching offensive actions in the Sumy region, forcing the occupiers to “extinguish the fire on their own territory.”
