Russia Deploys Marine Units in Strategic Push Near Pokrovsk
On September 6, 2025, Russia has repositioned experienced marine units near Pokrovsk as part of a significant offensive aimed at achieving a decisive breakthrough in Donbas. The primary objective of this operation is to capture the Pokrovsk-Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration, according to the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, reports 24brussels.
The Ukrainian military has noted a shift in Russian tactics in recent weeks. Russian forces are attempting to infiltrate deeper into the city using small groups without engaging in direct combat.
The 7th Corps stated, “The enemy’s main goal in Pokrovsk is to come as close as possible to the positions of drone operators or mortar units, attempt to disperse our defense forces, establish themselves in new positions, and expand the boundaries of the ‘gray zone.’”
Simultaneously, Russian forces have intensified assaults on the flanks using armored and motorized units to cut off logistics for the 7th Corps and to encircle the Pokrovsk agglomeration.
According to military reports, Russian forces have reduced air strikes on “zero” positions while increasing them on civilian structures in the rear. “Understanding the enemy’s plans, the 7th Corps is adapting defensive tactics, logistics, and taking measures to block enemy forces in designated areas, while fully controlling the defense of designated frontiers,” the Corps emphasized.
Earlier, Ukrainian troops had launched a series of counterattacks around Pokrovsk, which has been confirmed with the liberation of several settlements in the area, including Novoekonomichne and Udačne. The confirmation of the liberation of Novoekonomichne was highlighted in the reports from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
