Russian Attacks on Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure Intensify as Winter Approaches
In the latest wave of assaults, Vladimir Putin’s forces have targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure amid the onset of winter, as temperatures drop across the region, reports 24brussels.
“It is precisely the civilian and energy infrastructure that is the main target of Russia’s strikes ahead of the heating season. Together, we can protect people from this terror,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated, calling for “decisive action” from the United States, European nations, and the G7, which includes the provision of air defense systems and the implementation of stricter sanctions.
In Kyiv, repair crews are mobilized to restore electricity and water supplies. Power outages have been reported in multiple regions, including Kyiv, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, and Dnipro, as the situation remains critical.
The DTEK group, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, confirmed on Friday that its facilities had been struck for the third time within a week, resulting in injuries to a worker and significant damage to its equipment.
