Russian Drone Attack on Ukraine: 142 Drones Targeted
On the night of August 31, 2025, the Russian military launched an assault on Ukraine using 142 attack drones of the Shahed type and various decoy UAVs from directions including Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsk-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Chaus, temporarily occupied Crimea, reports 24brussels.
As of 9 AM, Ukraine’s air defense reported the destruction or suppression of 126 enemy drones across northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country. There were confirmed hits from 16 attack drones at ten locations, along with debris from downed drones detected in six areas.
The counteraction involved surface-to-air missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The stricken Odesa region reported significant impact, particularly the city of Chornomorsk and its outskirts. The attack resulted in damage to energy infrastructure, leaving over 29,000 subscribers without electricity.
As Russia prepares to increase its drone attacks, launching up to a thousand Shahed drones daily, Ukraine continues to rely on support from its allies. The promised “drone shield” raises questions regarding its feasibility and effectiveness.
