Russia Launches Large-Scale Attack on Ukraine on August 3

In the early hours of August 3, Russian forces executed a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying a total of 83 aerial attack assets, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

The assault included:

  • 76 Shahed-type attack drones and various types of diversionary drones from the directions of Shatalovo, Kursk, and Millerovo in Russia;
  • One Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from the Bryansk region of Russia;
  • Five S-300/S-400 guided missiles from the Kursk region;
  • One X-22 cruise missile from the airspace over the Black Sea.

As of 9 AM, preliminary reports indicated that air defense forces had shot down or suppressed a total of 61 enemy aerial targets, including:

  • 60 Shahed drones and various types of diversionary drones across northern, southern, eastern, and central Ukraine;
  • One Iskander-M ballistic missile.

The latest aerial assault was countered by the Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Reports confirmed that six missiles and 16 drones struck eight locations, and debris from downed targets fell in two additional locations.

While Russia is preparing to launch up to one thousand Shahed drones daily, Ukraine continues to rely on support from its partners. Questions remain about the promised “drone shield” — whether it is a feasible solution or simply an expensive illusion, reports 24brussels.
