Russian Forces Aim to Capture Three Cities in Donetsk Region
The Russian military command has instructed its “Dnieper” group to seize three cities in the Donetsk region—Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Dobropillya—by the end of autumn, reports 24brussels.
According to Alexey Belsky, the spokesman for the grouping, the main objective is to establish control over the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration. To achieve this, Russian forces are creating a so-called “corridor” from Nikanorivka and Mayak towards Dobropillya, while also reallocating additional reserves to the area.
“There is a risk that our forces may cut off this ‘neck,’ which is why they have reinforced the area with whole brigades from other sections of the front,” Belsky noted.
Dobropillya has been identified as the first target for attack. Should it fall, the Russians plan to concentrate their efforts on Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk. Subsequently, they intend to encircle Kostiantynivka to disrupt Ukrainian logistical routes.
Simultaneously, Belsky stated that Russian forces are suffering significant losses. Over the past day alone, 153 enemy soldiers were eliminated in the Pokrovsk direction. Overall, attempts to capture Pokrovsk have been ongoing for more than ten months, with the enemy losing between 150 and 200 troops daily.
Earlier reports indicated that Ukrainian armed forces had successfully pushed Russian troops back in the Donetsk region while the occupiers made advances in Dnipropetrovsk.
