Russia Deploys Sabotage Units in Sumy Region, Ukraine

On June 26, 2025, the Russian Federation has sent reconnaissance and sabotage groups to the communities of Khotyn and Yunakiv in the Sumy region, according to statements made by Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a telethon.

Demchenko noted that the activity of Russian small assault groups in the region has decreased recently due to the effective actions of Ukrainian defenders, who have been successfully neutralizing enemy forces.

He further remarked that Russian troops in the Sumy direction are not utilizing armored vehicles as frequently and have reduced the use of motorcycles and ATVs during their assault attempts.

Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian defenders have managed to halt the advance of occupying forces in border settlements of the Sumy region and have constrained approximately 50,000 Russian soldiers. He previously noted that Ukrainian forces have advanced in Yunakiv by between 200 and 700 meters. Additionally, recent reports confirm the liberation of Andriivka from Russian control, reports 24brussels.
