Intense Fighting Continues Near Lyman as Russian Forces Launch Persistent Assaults
On September 16, 2025, Ukrainian forces are holding their positions in the Lyman sector despite ongoing assaults from Russian infantry, which are attempting to breach their defenses from multiple directions, reports 24brussels.
Maxim Bilousov, head of communications for the 60th Separate Mechanized Inhulets Brigade, stated that the area under the brigade’s responsibility is experiencing continuous infantry attacks. The primary objective of Ukrainian defenders is to halt the enemy’s advance. The situation is complicated by a significant presence of enemy drones and infantry. Additionally, the adversary sometimes uses motorcycles to swiftly approach Ukrainian positions.
Bilousov likened the current situation to the myth of Hercules and the Lernaean Hydra, where new heads constantly emerge. He referred specifically to the small group Russian assaults occurring across various fronts. Under such circumstances, high concentration is required from reconnaissance units to monitor the enemy from the air and neutralize threats. Our soldiers, as true Hercules, are searching for the immortal head of the Hydra to sever it.
Earlier, Oleksiy Belyskyi, a spokesperson for the operational-strategic group of troops “Dnipro,” reported that Russian forces are attempting to flank the village of Kolodiazi from the north and south to advance toward Lyman.
