Russian drone strike injures 12 in Ukraine’s Sumy region, including two children

Mass Drone Strike Hits Okhtyrka, Injuring Dozens

In the early hours of August 20, 2025, Russian forces launched a massive drone strike on the city of Okhtyrka in the Sumy region, injuring 12 individuals, including two children, reports 24brussels.

According to the Ukrainian National Police, the attacks inflicted significant damage on residential infrastructure. A residential building, 13 private homes, an outbuilding, and a garage were all severely affected.

Investigation teams and explosives experts are currently on-site, assessing the impact of the strikes, documenting the destruction, collecting evidence, and providing assistance to affected residents.

On August 19, Russian forces carried out a coordinated attack with drones and ballistic missiles on the Poltava region. Although there were no casualties, infrastructure damage was reported in the Kremenchug and Lubny districts, notably impacting the energy sector. Almost 8,000 subscribers experienced power outages due to the preceding assaults.
