Russian Drone Strike Kills Ukrainian Postal Worker in Donetsk
In a tragic incident on the outskirts of Kramatorsk, a Russian drone strike killed a postal worker just days before her 47th birthday. The attack targeted a vehicle used by a mobile branch of Ukrposhta, the national postal service, reports 24brussels.
General Director of Ukrposhta, Igor Smelyansky, confirmed the attack via his Telegram channel, stating, “The enemy drone struck our vehicle, killing Olga and injuring our driver, Pavel.”
The drone hit the passenger seat of the postal vehicle, indicating a targeted strike. Fortunately, Pavel’s condition is improving as medical personnel provide necessary care. Smelyansky emphasized the urgency of the situation and the efforts made to assist both individuals during the attack.
This tragic event occurred in a region where Ukrainian military forces from the 56th Brigade are actively defending, which further highlights the risks faced by civilians and support services operating in war zones. The brigade responded swiftly, doing everything possible to rescue Pavel and assist Olga.
Additionally, a Russian drone attempted to attack another Ukrposhta vehicle in the Kherson region but missed its target, according to Smelyansky, who stated, “We will restore our equipment.”
This incident is part of a broader pattern of increasing threats against Ukrainian postal services, which have faced multiple attacks. On August 2, separate Ukrposhta branches in the villages of Natalivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and Balakliya in Kharkiv Oblast were also shelled, underscoring the dangerous environment for essential service providers.
