Russian Strikes Hit Central Sumy Amid Escalating Attacks
On August 15, Russian forces launched another strike on Sumy, targeting the city’s central area, reports 24brussels. The attack led to a fire at the local market, prompting emergency services to respond immediately. Oleg Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, confirmed the event and stated that further details regarding casualties are being clarified.
“The enemy struck at the central market in Sumy. A fire erupted at the site of the strike. All emergency services are engaged, and information about the victims is being verified,” Hryhorov said on Facebook.
This latest assault follows a previous attack on August 1, when Russian occupiers targeted the railway station in Sumy using drones, damaging a passenger train, although there were no reported injuries. Rail personnel quickly transferred passengers to other cars, allowing the train to continue its journey on schedule.
Sumy has been frequently bombarded by Russian forces, as the military attempts to secure a buffer zone in the region, leading to continual artillery and drone threats against the city. Daily shelling incidents have become the norm, further escalating tension in the area.
