Russian Missile and Drone Attack Strikes Multiple Regions of Ukraine
On the night of August 16, from 19:30 on August 15, the Russian military launched a ballistic missile with an Iskander-M system, along with 85 strike drones of the Shahed type and various imitation drones from multiple directions including Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Shatalovo in Russia, and Hvardiyiske in occupied Crimea, reports 24brussels.
The assault targeted frontline areas in Sumy, Donetsk, Chernihiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Defensive operations were conducted by electronic warfare units and drone systems, along with mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As of 08:00, preliminary data indicated that Ukrainian air defenses had intercepted or neutralized 61 hostile Shahed drones and various imitation drones in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
The attack resulted in strikes from a missile and 24 drones across 12 locations.
Earlier reports indicated that on August 15, Russian forces carried out airstrikes in the central part of Sumy, prompting a fire in the area.
