Russian Drone Strikes Target Energy Infrastructure in Odesa Region
On the night of August 31, 2025, Russian occupation forces launched a large-scale drone attack on the Odesa region, targeting four energy facilities owned by DTEK, reports 24brussels.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, significant fires erupted at these facilities, but first responders managed to extinguish them swiftly. Additionally, Russian troops damaged warehouses and residential buildings in the region.
DTEK confirmed that energy sector workers would begin assessing the damage and preparing for recovery efforts as soon as they receive clearance from military and firefighting officials.
During the attack, Russia launched 142 “Shahed” drones and decoy UAVs at Ukraine, with the city of Chornomorsk and its vicinity being particularly affected. As a result, over 29,000 subscribers were left without electricity.
As Russia intensifies its operations and plans to deploy up to a thousand “Shahed” drones daily, Ukraine continues to seek support from its partners. The much-anticipated “drone shield” remains a topic of debate—whether it is a reality or merely an expensive illusion.
