Russian Forces Target Humanitarian Mission in Ukraine
On Saturday, June 28, Russian military forces carried out a targeted drone strike on a bus affiliated with the humanitarian mission “Prolisok,” which was en route to evacuate civilians from the Synelnykivsky district in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The attack was reported by the mission’s head, Yevhen Kaplin, via Facebook.
According to Kaplin, an enemy drone dropped an explosive device of the fragmentation type on the vehicle, which impacted just half a meter away from the minibus.
The assault caused significant damage to the bus, puncturing the fuel tank, destroying the rear wheels, and shattering windows. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board at the time of the strike, as the vehicle was heading to populated areas designated for evacuation.
The driver, who was at the wheel during the attack, remarkably escaped injury, Kaplin emphasized. He further stated that this cynical assault demonstrates that Russian forces do not hesitate to target humanitarian transport, endangering civilians seeking refuge.
The Synelnykivsky district is among the regions where mandatory evacuation has been declared due to an increased threat of enemy attacks.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that in Donetsk Oblast, where evacuation efforts continue, approximately 270,600 civilians remain, including 19,900 children. Since 2022, 1.23 million people have left Donetsk. In communities classified as active combat zones, 24,500 residents, including 120 children, have chosen to stay. Evacuations for families with children are underway in five settlements, with 89 minors still remaining in these areas.
Evacuation efforts are critical as the conflict intensifies, and humanitarian organizations face ongoing challenges in ensuring the safety of civilians.
