On June 27, 2025, in the northern Kharkiv region, Russian forces have begun deploying “mother drones” — large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed to carry multiple FPV (first-person view) drones, reports 24brussels.

This carrier drone transports FPV drones into Ukrainian territory, enabling them to strike targets beyond the reach of Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.

The commander of a Ukrainian battalion operating in the Liman direction reported that Russian troops are using guided glide bombs and FPV drones to target Ukrainian logistics centers, frontline UAV pilots, as well as troop concentrations and rest areas.

Earlier reports indicated that Russian forces had begun utilizing the “Molniya” drone as a carrier for FPV drones. In this configuration, the “Molniya” can attack targets while also launching additional drones that can be controlled separately by Russian operators.
