Increased Drone Activity by Russian Forces Near Pokrovsk
Russian occupation forces have significantly intensified their use of FPV drones and other types of unmanned aerial vehicles in the Pokrovsk direction, as reported by a military officer from the fifth separate special forces unit “Omega,” known by the call sign “Major.” This statement comes amid growing concern regarding the tactics employed by the Russians, reports 24brussels.
The officer indicated that the occupiers have begun using reconnaissance drones more extensively to locate Ukrainian positions and facilitate logistics. A notable number of fiber-optic drones are also being deployed by Russian forces.
According to “Major,” the Russians are utilizing FPV drones to ambush logistics routes. He recounted an incident where military personnel were transporting ammunition and food supplies when their vehicle was attacked by a drone. Fortunately, the occupants survived as the vehicle was reinforced with protective nets.
Additionally, he noted that Russian infantry units are well-trained and employ cloaks to better conceal themselves from thermal imaging devices.
Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Russia has amassed approximately 111,000 soldiers in the Pokrovsk direction and is attempting to push toward the administrative boundary of the Donetsk region.
Reports indicate that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have managed to compel the occupiers to mainly move on foot in the area of the right flank of Pokrovsk, effectively limiting their use of military vehicles. Insights into the evolving situation in this area are provided by military analyst Vitalii Kononuchenko in his article titled “Shadows Over Pokrovsk: How Ukraine is Stabilizing the Front and Stopping the Enemy in Donetsk.”
