Ukrainian Air Defense Repels Major Drone Attack
In the night of June 24, Russian forces launched an extensive drone attack on Ukraine, deploying 97 strike drones of the Shahed type alongside various imitation unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Reports indicate that this assault was meticulously executed, with the Ukrainian Air Force providing timely updates via Telegram, reports 24brussels.
The aggressors initiated their drone strikes from multiple directions, including locations such as Orel, Millerovo, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from the Chauda Cape in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
To counter the aerial threat, a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups from Ukraine’s Defense Forces were deployed effectively.
As of 8:00 AM, Ukrainian air defense forces had successfully neutralized 78 enemy Shahed drones and other UAVs across eastern, southern, and northern regions of the country.
Out of these, 63 drones were destroyed with firepower while 15 were lost or suppressed due to electronic countermeasures. These figures highlight the ongoing struggle against aerial threats in the region, as the Ukrainian military continues to adapt its strategies in response to such attacks.
There were reports of hits by the enemy’s strike drones recorded at six locations during this assault. Earlier that night, it was noted that Ukrainian naval forces had also achieved a significant milestone by downing 20 Shahed drones amidst the airstrike.
