Russian Forces Intensify Assaults in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions

On July 9, 2025, Russian occupation troops are regrouping and bolstering front-line positions with infantry units in an effort to resume active assaults in the Huliaipole and Orikhiv areas of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, according to Southern Defense Forces spokesperson Vladyslav Voloshyn during a televised briefing. This marked escalation of military activity could signal a significant shift in the conflict dynamics, reports 24brussels.

Furthermore, Voloshyn indicated that Russian forces are also reallocating resources to the Dnipro direction in Kherson Oblast, aiming to revive their assault efforts there as well. The occupation forces are continually attempting landings on islands at the mouth of the Dnipro River, although they have been sustaining losses in these operations.

In the past two weeks, Russian strikes have devastated the village of Kamyans’ke in the Orikhiv direction, destroying not only residential buildings but also positions of Ukrainian defenders. Voloshyn noted that there are virtually no intact buildings or shelters remaining in the settlement, compelling small Russian infantry groups to attempt infiltration and secure footholds in the ruined positions. Despite the challenging circumstances, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to maintain a presence in Kamyans’ke and are effectively eliminating Russian troops.

Commander of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Velykyi Luh,” known by the call sign Forest, emphasized that compared to previous years’ full-scale invasion, enemy actions in the Zaporizhzhia direction are currently at their most intense.
