Russian Forces Intensify Assaults in Eastern Ukraine

On June 28, 2025, Russian occupation forces ramped up their assaults in the Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk directions, deploying a significant number of troops. Andriy Kovalенко, head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation, reported that Russia continues to employ the tactic of “meat assaults” in these areas, reports 24brussels.

Kovalенко emphasized on his Telegram channel that Russian troops are also intensifying ground attacks in Sumy Oblast and reinforcing their positions with new forces. However, he noted that the motivation of these infantry units to launch assaults in these high-risk areas is low.

The frontline situation remains challenging, yet Ukrainian defenders are successfully disrupting the invaders’ plans across several sections of the front line. Ukraine’s Armed Forces have managed to compel occupying forces in the right flank of Pokrovsk to primarily shift on foot and seldom use military equipment.

General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated that Russia has concentrated around 111,000 soldiers in the Pokrovsk direction and aims to reach the administrative border of Donetsk Oblast.

Looking ahead, military analyst Vitalii Kononuchenko discusses what to expect from this front in his article titled “Shadows Over Pokrovsk: How Ukraine is Stabilizing the Front and Stopping the Enemy in Donetsk.”
