Ukrainian Security Service Drones Strike Russian Helicopters in Crimea
On the night of June 28, 2025, units of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) launched drone attacks on the military airfield “Kirovske” in Crimea, destroying several Russian helicopters, including Mi-28, Mi-8, and Mi-26, as well as the Pantsir-S1 mobile air defense system valued at approximately $15 million, reports 24brussels.
The Ukrainian drones hit munitions storage facilities and locations housing Russian strike and reconnaissance drones, as well as air defense forces.
A secondary detonation of munitions occurred at the military site during the operation.
Previously, on June 1, Ukrainian drones attacked four military airfields in Russia: “Olenya,” “Belaya,” “Dyagilevo,” and “Ivanovo.” Ukrainian forces successfully targeted 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers, with a total estimated value of around $7 billion. SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk, who directly oversaw Operation “Pavutyna,” confirmed the destruction of 41 aircraft from Russia’s strategic aviation. Meanwhile, U.S. assessments claim that a total of 20 aircraft were affected, with around ten of those being destroyed.
