Majority of Ukrainians Remain Optimistic About Winning the War Against Russia
As the conflict in Ukraine persists, a recent survey reveals that 80% of citizens believe Ukraine will ultimately secure victory against Russia, down from 88% in early 2024. In contrast, 16% of respondents expressed skepticism regarding a Ukrainian victory, while 4% were unable to provide an answer, reports 24brussels.
The survey conducted by the sociological group “Rating,” commissioned by the International Republican Institute’s Center for Analysis and Sociological Research, indicates that belief in victory peaked at 98% in June 2022. Similar high levels of confidence were noted in April 2022 and February 2023, with 97% of Ukrainians expressing optimism during those periods.
In terms of war duration, 35% of respondents anticipate the conflict will conclude within the next one to two years, down from 37% earlier this year. Additionally, 24% believe that the war will end in less than a year, while 15% expect a resolution in three to four years, and 12% – in five years or more. Notably, 5% of participants indicated that the war could never reach a conclusion, with 9% unsure.
The survey was conducted from July 22-27 using computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) with a random sample of 2,400 Ukrainian citizens aged 18 and older. The margin of error for the full sample is 2.0 percentage points.
Furthermore, findings from a separate survey conducted between July 30 and August 6, 2025, revealed that 55% of Ukrainians view the success of the Armed Forces as a critical factor in national unity. The same survey indicated that 75% of citizens support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, and 71% favor NATO membership.
