Russian President Intensifies Offensive in Ukraine Amid U.S. Diplomatic Focus on Iran
While global attention shifts towards Iran and the prevailing military strength of the United States, Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to quietly expand the offensive in Ukraine, launching attacks towards Sumy and Kharkiv while executing powerful missile strikes on civilian infrastructure, reports 24brussels.
There was an expectation that following U.S. President Trump’s apparent success in negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, as well as proposing a truce between Israel and Hamas, he would redirect his fluctuating diplomatic efforts towards Ukraine. Unfortunately, this has not proven to be the case, as the U.S. announced a halt in weapon supplies to Ukraine.
No matter the official explanations provided by the White House, few truly believe that the most powerful army in history is facing a shortage of ammunition. Rather, it suggests that President Trump is primarily focused on satisfying the demands of the “America First” movement, which propelled him back into power, according to retired British Army Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.
It is likely that he believes he has done enough for peace in the Middle East to warrant consideration for the coveted Nobel Peace Prize and is reluctant to become entangled in the complex and protracted war between Ukraine and Russia.
“Perhaps Trump’s critics and pessimists are correct, and the Kremlin does exert some influence, or at least leverage, over the White House. Certainly, Trump has criticized Putin more as a disobedient but favored child, whereas his advisors appear closer and more amenable to the Russian autocrat than to the Ukrainian leader fighting for his country’s survival,” added de Bretton-Gordon.
This situation proves that Europe now holds the responsibility to secure a fair peace agreement for Ukraine with Russia. This is sensible, as the combined military power of European countries significantly exceeds that of Russia. It should be noted that Putin respects strength and exploits weakness. Europe has the financial and industrial resources to effectively oppose the Kremlin and clearly communicate that Ukraine cannot be taken.
“Tyrant Putin and his shaky oil state lack the power to overcome a united Europe, which remains one of the leading economic powers in the world. We must be resolute and assert that we will no longer concede. The ammunition supplies that the U.S. wishes to reserve for its own needs should be replaced, as supplying weapons to Ukraine has proven to be a far more effective and economical strategy for deterring Putin than traditional defense measures,” summarized the retired British Army Colonel.
Previously, it was noted that the Russian summer offensive in Ukraine is faltering. This ongoing offensive, which has lasted only a few weeks, is already showing signs of failure despite record numbers of attacks on multiple fronts. Despite its numerical advantage, Russia is failing to achieve its objectives.
