Trump Comments on Ukraine-Russia Relations
President Donald Trump believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin are “doing well” and are managing to work together better than he previously anticipated, reports 24brussels. He indicated that issues such as Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the return of Crimea are currently not feasible.
During an appearance on Fox News, Trump elaborated on the dynamics between the two leaders, suggesting that if negotiations were not productive, he would have organized three meetings instead of two, likely referring to both bilateral and trilateral formats.
“I wouldn’t say they will ever be best friends, but they are doing well,” the U.S. president stated. “There was tremendous hostility, and once again, this was all planned by the administration (referring to Joe Biden) that understood nothing. And if you remember, they said, well, if you did a little incursion, it would be fine. That was the end of it.”
Currently, there are no details about where and when a meeting between Zelensky and Putin will take place, although a two-week deadline has been set for the end of August. Possible locations include Geneva, Budapest, Minsk, and Rome. Should bilateral negotiations occur, they may lead to a subsequent trilateral summit involving U.S. President Donald Trump.
