US Secretary of State Marco Rubio: Trump Losing Patience on Ukraine Conflict

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump is “losing patience” and is ready to take action regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as there has been no significant move from Russia to resolve the situation. He made this remark during an interview with Fox News, reports 24brussels.

Rubio emphasized that Trump is primarily focused on achieving peace and is committed to halting conflicts. He noted, “This is not his war. He didn’t start this war. It would not have happened if he were president. But it has happened, and he has done everything possible to end it.”

The Secretary also expressed disappointment over the lack of fruitful dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, “He is becoming increasingly frustrated that despite good relations with Putin and phone conversations, nothing comes of it. It’s time for action, and I think the president has made that clear.”

According to Rubio, over 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since January this year. He remarked, “This is a bloody conflict with numerous casualties and destruction. Much of the Russian strategy appears aimed at buying time, giving the impression of an interest in peace, while not taking it seriously.”

During the interview, he was also asked about the collaboration between China and Russia. Rubio stated, “It’s no secret that China provides as much assistance to Russia as it can without risking exposure. Europeans understand this well. Putin could not continue this war without Chinese support, especially without their purchase of oil. I believe the Chinese are interested in this war continuing. They see it as a distraction that keeps us focused elsewhere.”

On July 13, Trump warned the Kremlin that if Moscow does not reach a ceasefire agreement with Kyiv within 50 days, the U.S. would impose new sanctions, including a 100% tariff on trade partners of Russia. However, reports indicate that Russia is not currently intimidated by these threats.

Trump has previously expressed frustration over unproductive talks with Putin but has yet to take serious measures to pressure Russia into ceasing its military actions in Ukraine.
