U.S. to Supply Ukraine with Possible Patriot Systems
Major General Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Chief of the GUR MO, stated that U.S. President Donald Trump implied Ukraine could receive 17 launchers for Patriot air defense systems, a feasible number. Reports suggest that this quantity aligns with operational capabilities.
“Seventeen is a substantial amount if we are discussing batteries. If it pertains to launchers, then this is possible,” he remarked during an interview with The Guardian.
Each Patriot system comprises six launchers. Skibitsky noted that Germany has already agreed to provide two systems, while the Netherlands will supply a third, totaling three batteries with 18 launchers, which is close to the 17 mentioned.
“The U.S. administration and the Pentagon will provide us with further details,” added the Major General.
On July 14, Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reached an agreement for the U.S. to sell arms to Ukraine via Europe, which will finance the procurement. According to The Telegraph, European nations may use frozen Russian assets for this purpose.
Moreover, Trump warned the Kremlin that if Moscow does not reach a ceasefire agreement with Kyiv within 50 days, the U.S. will impose secondary tariffs of 100% against Russian trade partners. Media reports indicate that Russia is unfazed by these threats.
The motivations behind Trump’s policy towards Ukraine—be it ego, emotions, or interests—are analyzed in an article by Oleg Shamshur.
