US Supports New Round of Ukraine-Russia Negotiations

The US Department of State has expressed its support for the initiative to conduct a third round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that only through dialogue can the war be resolved. This statement was made by State Department spokesperson Tammi Bruce during a briefing in Washington.

“We are aware of the intention to hold a third round of dialogue. We continue to urge both parties to engage in direct negotiations to achieve a complete cessation of hostilities and a peaceful resolution of the conflict through agreements,” she stated.

Bruce highlighted that only a constructive and honest conversation could bring an end to the war.

According to Independent Türkçe, the next meeting at a technical level is expected to take place in Istanbul on July 24 or 25. Topics of discussion may include humanitarian issues, prisoner exchanges, protection of infrastructure, and the situation in Ukraine’s border regions.

There is currently no official confirmation of the date, although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that the negotiations might occur on July 23. Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced that delegations are scheduled to arrive on July 23, with the negotiations set to commence on the 24th.

Preparations for the meeting are ongoing, with technical conditions being agreed upon, security protocols being developed, and logistical matters being addressed. The negotiations are expected to be closed to the media, but official statements from both sides may follow.

During the previous meeting in Istanbul on June 2, the parties agreed on an exchange of severely wounded soldiers and deceased individuals—6,000 bodies from each side—as well as the transfer of prisoners aged 25 and under. The first round of negotiations took place on May 16 at the Dolmabahçe Palace.
