UK Extends Ukraine Protection Program for Two More Years
The United Kingdom will extend its Ukraine Permission Extension program for another two years, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced during a speech in Parliament. This extension demonstrates the UK’s ongoing commitment to support Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict, reports 24brussels.
“We will continue to contribute to supporting Ukraine by extending the Ukraine Permission Extension program for an additional 24 months. Further details will be published in due course,” Cooper stated.
Initially launched in 2022 for a duration of three years, the program was first extended by 18 months and will now receive an additional 24-month extension.
This means that Ukrainian nationals arriving in the UK after February 24, 2022, will be able to stay in the country under the humanitarian protection scheme for a total of 6.5 years, lasting until the autumn of 2028.
It is important to note that this time period does not count towards residency requirements for British citizenship.
Since February, Ukrainian refugees in the UK have also been permitted to sponsor the entry of their minor children.
