Ukraine Announces Expansion of Long-Range Drone Operations

On June 27, 2025, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced plans for increased long-range operations by the Defense Forces. He revealed in an interview that the country had developed a systematic strike plan last year and contracted several tens of thousands of long-range drones, termed deep strike, to execute these strategies, reports 24brussels.

This initiative has allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to conduct precision strikes on critical enemy targets systematically.

“All drone supplies are on schedule, and operations are being carried out daily in accordance with approved plans,” Umerov stated, adding that recent leadership decisions have significantly increased the number of operations. Consequently, contracts for tens of thousands of new long-range drones are in preparation.

The long-range strike drones of the Defense Forces have the potential to alter the war’s trajectory. However, military officer and radio engineer Yuri Kasyanov, in an article, pointed out that instead of producing effective results, these drones reveal symptoms of a systemic issue in the ongoing conflict.
