Ukraine Develops Ammunition Against Drones
On June 30, 2025, Ukrainian defense firm Brave1 announced the development of new ammunition designed to enhance the chances of successfully targeting Russian drones. Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology, Mykhailo Fedorov, revealed this in his Telegram channel, noting that the ammunition resembles standard rounds in the most common caliber, yet features a distinctive design.
“By using a specialized warhead, they significantly increase the likelihood of hitting FPV drones or ‘Maviks’ before they can launch an attack,” Fedorov explained.
The new ammunition has been standardized according to NATO regulations. Fedorov emphasized that the primary objective is to ensure that every infantryman is equipped with magazines filled with these rounds to respond effectively to aerial threats.
Notably, electronic warfare expert Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov has advised Ukrainians against observing mobile fire groups from windows, as the bullets fired by defenders pose a serious risk. Meanwhile, activist and public figure Serhiy Sternenko pointed out that Ukrainian forces are utilizing these munitions due to a lack of training with drone interception systems. He urged local administrations to prioritize the implementation of such innovations to prevent Russian forces from overwhelming Ukraine with Shahed drones.
The increasing reliance on drone technology in modern warfare underscores the need for constant adaptation in defense strategies. The latest developments in Ukraine reflect an ongoing effort to enhance military capabilities amid escalating conflict.
