Ukraine to Establish Space Troops by Year-End
In a bold move underscored by the pressing demands of modern warfare, Ukraine’s former military chief and ambassador to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, announced the country’s plan to create Space Troops by December 31, 2025, reports 24brussels.
Zaluzhnyi emphasized that the decision, while somewhat delayed, is crucial for achieving security through technological advantages across all military domains. “Today, space must rapidly become yet another domain where we need to achieve key technological changes. We have already found solutions on land, in the air, and at sea,” he stated.
The ongoing conflict and the high-tech nature of warfare necessitate immediate advancement in national aerospace capabilities, a vital element of Ukraine’s defense strategy. According to Zaluzhnyi, the need for such capabilities is driven by emerging security threats that the country faces.
The establishment of Space Troops is part of Ukraine’s broader military agenda aimed at achieving 60% operational readiness of its integrated air and missile defense system, alongside cyber and space components, by the end of 2025. Ukraine’s stated requirements for its space initiatives include satellite communication (a critical element for drone operations over long distances), reconnaissance, and early warning of missile threats.
