Ukraine Faces Escalating Crisis in Kupiansk Amid Russian Advancements

On September 19, 2025, the Ukrainian city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region is witnessing a critical situation as Russian forces advance, threatening renewed territorial control in the area, reports 24brussels.

According to Ukrainian MP Maryana Bezuhla, the capture of Kupiansk would pave the way for Russia to reclaim territories previously liberated in 2022. Bezuhla expressed her concerns regarding the dire circumstances that are reportedly being overlooked at higher decision-making levels.

The situation escalated as Russian troops utilized gas pipelines to maneuver their forces closer to Kupiansk. In response, Ukrainian Defense Forces sabotaged and flooded the pipeline to disrupt Russian logistics. Subsequently, Russian units are attempting to increase their troop movements via rafts and boats across the Oskil River.

Yuriy Fedorенко, commander of the 429th separate drone brigade “Achilles,” stressed that Russian military command has instructed their soldiers to bypass Kupiansk’s northwest outskirts and push further into the city. Intense street battles with Russian saboteurs are currently ongoing in Kupiansk. However, Andriy Kovalенко, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that there are no Russian forces in central Kupiansk, even as heavy fighting for control of the city continues.

As the conflict unfolds, the international community remains alert to the growing tensions in the region, focusing on the broader implications of the ongoing military actions in Ukraine and their potential impact on stability in Europe.
