Ukraine to Receive 33,000 AI-Powered Drone Kits from Auterion

On July 28, 2025, American-German company Auterion announced it will supply Ukraine with 33,000 “strike kits” for drones, following a new $50 million contract with the Pentagon. This development aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid escalating Russian drone assaults.

According to Auterion CEO Lorenz Meyer, this new shipment is ten times larger than previous deliveries and includes thousands of miniature Skynode computers equipped with cameras and radio communications. These systems transform drones into autonomous strike platforms capable of operating on artificial intelligence technology, navigating electronic warfare tactics while tracking moving targets from distances up to one kilometer. The software has already been effectively utilized by the Ukrainian military.

This contract is separate from the previously announced large-scale “drone deal” that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed following talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. However, Auterion regards this collaboration as an example of joint production between the U.S. and Ukraine, underscoring the value of combat experience gained from Ukrainian drones.

Meyer emphasized that the company is not attempting to displace Ukrainian drone manufacturers but aims to enhance areas where Ukraine currently has limited capacity, particularly in software-oriented warfare and autonomous swarming technology. He noted that Auterion’s technology enables drones to share information with one another, potentially marking the “next evolutionary step” in warfare, while adding that the final decision to engage targets will always rest with a human operator.

As Russia prepares for thousands of strikes daily, Ukraine continues to rely on partner assistance.
