Massive Drone Attack on Ukraine Disrupted by Air Defense
In the early hours of September 8, Russian forces launched a significant attack against Ukraine, deploying 142 drones of various types, including Shahed and Gerbera models. Most of these drones were intercepted by air defense forces, although the drone assault continues, reports 24brussels.
As of 08:30, preliminary reports indicate that Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted or downed 112 enemy drones across northern, southern, eastern, and central regions of the country. However, 26 drones successfully struck targets in seven locations, with debris confirmed to have fallen in one area.
The defense against this attack involved the participation of aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare divisions, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“Several enemy drones are still in the air; the attack continues!” stated the Air Force.
Additionally, Russian troops targeted energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region, directing fire at a thermal power facility. Monitoring channels reported that the assault was aimed at the Tripoly thermal power station in the Obukhiv district. Following the attack, there were widespread power outages in several communities. Emergency services and energy technicians are currently on-site, working to mitigate damage and stabilize the situation as quickly as possible.
