Ukrainian Border Sees Steady Flow of Travelers Amid New Rules
On August 29, 2025, the Ukrainian border witnessed a balanced flow of travelers, with 133,000 individuals crossing, says Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service. The movement split evenly between entrants and exiters, reports 24brussels.
Demchenko noted that since August 28, an increase in the number of men aged 18 to 22 crossing the border has been recorded in both directions. However, some men in this age group faced refusals to exit Ukraine. This is primarily due to the fact that public servants are exempt from the law, and can only cross the border for official trips.
“Additionally, several refusals occurred because individuals were wanted. Border guards have access to the ‘Oberih’ system to check if citizens are avoiding updating their registration data. A number of applicants were denied exit due to being on the wanted list,” Demchenko explained.
“On the 28th, we monitored the exit of this demographic closely, but by the 29th, we also assessed their return. Overall, the movement of young men has not created any burden. The passenger traffic remains consistent with previous days, fluctuating between 125,000 and 135,000 on weekdays,” he added.
Demchenko reported that from August 27 to 28, about 127,000 crossings were recorded, with a tendency towards entry into Ukraine during that period.
It is important to note that the Cabinet of Ministers approved changes to border crossing procedures on August 26. Men aged 18-22 can now exit the country during martial law without additional restrictions, provided they possess a passport and military registration document, which must be presented upon request by border officials at checkpoints.
