Ukrainian Drones Target Russian Oil Refineries in Coordinated Attack

In the early hours of August 30, 2025, Ukrainian drones launched a targeted assault on two significant Russian oil refineries—the Krasnodar and the Syzran refineries in the Samara region—resulting in explosions and fires, reports 24brussels.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the Krasnodar refinery, which annually produces approximately 3 million tons of light oil products—including gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel—plays a crucial role in supplying the Russian military. Following the drone strike, a fire was reported on site.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces executed a follow-up strike on the Syzran refinery, which has the capacity to process up to 8.5 million tons of oil annually, specializing in the production of gasoline, diesel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, and bitumen. Reports confirm that a fire broke out after the attack as well.

The General Staff noted that the full consequences of these strikes are still being assessed.

This is not the first time the Syzran refinery has faced targeted drone attacks. According to Russian media project Astra, on August 24, five UAVs struck the facility, causing damage to both primary and secondary oil processing units, as well as the pumping station. Another attack occurred on August 15. The refinery is located approximately 850 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
