Ukrainian Forces Push Back Occupation Troops in Sumy Region
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have advanced in the border village of Oleksiivka, successfully pushing occupation troops further away from the city of Sumy, the General Staff of the Ukrainian army reported. Ukrainian defenders have also regained control of the village of Andriivka.
The military emphasized that on the Sumy region frontline section between Yunakivka, Yablunivka, Novomykolaivka, Oleksiivka, and Kindrativka, they managed to halt the advance of Russian forces and stabilize the situation.
According to reports, the aggressor country has deployed its best troops in this area, including combat-ready motorized infantry, airborne assault brigades, and naval infantry. Additionally, Russia is attempting to push Ukrainian defenders back from the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
This month, Ukrainian forces captured 42 Russian soldiers in the Sumy and Kursk directions, as noted by the General Staff.
Meanwhile, Pavel Narozhnyi, founder of the charity “Reactive Postal” and military expert, stressed that it is premature to discuss a complete stabilization of the situation in the Sumy direction, stating that there is currently a “relative calm.”
Russia has concentrated over 50,000 troops in the Sumy direction. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, asserts that their advance has been halted and that Ukrainian military personnel are containing the occupiers’ progress. However, reports indicate that the number of Ukrainian defenders in this sector is nearly three times less than that of the aggressors, raising concerns about the ongoing situation.
