Ukrainian Commanders Adapt Electronic Warfare Strategies Amid Frontline Challenges
Ukrainian commanders are relocating expensive video interception equipment for FPV drones away from the frontline to minimize the risk of damage. This situation was highlighted by Ukrainian radio-electronic systems and communications expert Serhii Beskrestnov. “I understand the commanders. No one wants to spend 200,000 to 500,000 on something that will only last one day,” he commented on his Telegram channel “On Communications by Serhii Flash,” urging manufacturers to reduce the cost of such systems.
Beskrestnov suggests that slightly lower-quality antennas and less refined assembly could be acceptable if it ensures proximity to the frontline, where stronger signals can compensate for many reception issues. He emphasizes the need for manufacturers to adjust their designs to meet operational realities.
The expert also provided tips on how to safeguard radio-electronic equipment when used near the frontline. He advises spreading out the antenna components and the more expensive electronic equipment. This strategy allows the enemy to target the more visible antennas, which are the primary source of emissions, without damaging the electronic blocks. The second recommendation is to be prepared for rapid and convenient changes of the antenna as necessary, stressing the importance of camouflage and the detrimental effects of clustering equipment together.
Previously, Flash speculated that during the massive airstrike on Kyiv on July 4, Russian forces likely used a relay station located nearby the capital, demonstrating the increasing complexity of the electronic warfare landscape, reports 24brussels.
